May 16,2010.
Arrived at LOST island resort on Friday the 14th
after an exhausting student exposition in Minneapolis. I spent most of the day
napping and eating but kicked it into high gear Saturday and today. We're
almost ready, about the same as last year. The lake water was much clearer this
year, I guess due to all the carp that have been seined out by DNR. To be
honest, I miss them. Schools of carp under the dock seemed to make the place
feel more alive, same as when all the birds are migrating in the fall. But,
carp also muddy up the water so now they're gone. In March DNR pulled out
78,000 pounds from under the ice. I don't know how they did it but they did. I
took a picture of their big trucks on the ice. A week later there was no ice.
I've been working hard on appearances this year. I
oiled the picnic benches, added a new door in the lodge as well as 5 rooms with
new wood laminate floors, new dinette in Pelican Nest, new stuffed chair in
Eagles Perch, new upstairs faucet in the lodge, new counter, sink and faucet in
my residence and other odds and ends.
This is my sabbatical year at SMSU. That means I
will probably not leave LOST in the fall. You never know what the future brings
but I'd really like to see the lake ice over. I've seen the ice go out in the
spring and it's really cool to watch. I love the sounds the ice make and look
forward to spending some quality time here in the fall and winter.
We're going to have so much fun this year. I have
bought some wild enhancements to the Wii and look forward to some playing time
on the outdoor 10 foot screen. We have also purchased some more games for xbox
and playstation as well as a new golf toss game.
Memorial weekend will be our first big weekend and
the very next weekend will be the Students In Free Enterprise retreat which
will be a blast as well as a working session. More later.

Four weeks left and the summer will be over. John’s Journal is over as well. For those of you who have been reading it over the years I apologize for my laziness in not keeping everyone informed about what’s going on at LOST. But technology has changed and I’m trying to change with the times. Five Hundred Million people are now on Facebook and it is so easy to post stuff like videos and photos and blogs. So we now have a Group that you can join and it will notify you when there is new “stuff” in the Group. Go to www.facebook.com and simply click on the Search box in Facebook, type in Lost Island Resort and then it will give you the opportunity to browse through the LOST group postings or if you like, you can join the Group. I hope you will join. If you do, you can also post your photos from your vacations and it can be a lot of fun for all of us.
